Here is a part of a procedure's disassembly.
The procedure appends an [unset b] to some other value.

    (76) unsetScalar 1 %v2      # var "b"
    (82) push1 1        # ""
    (84) strcat 2

bug? feature?  optimized elsewhere?

...it even knows unset's result is empty...

In light of my newer paste (performance drop with empty string concatenation), the disassembly looks the same in 8.6.5 and trunk version.
